  • Ellen Negley

Hi, I’m Ellen Negley and I was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois but now I live in Lake Worth Beach, Florida. For me, watercolor is the perfect medium. It’s elusive, unpredictable and has a mind of its own. I’m fascinated by its nuances. One minute the colors are bold and electric and the next they’re delicate and transparent. If I painted every day for the rest of my life, I still wouldn’t know all there is to know.

Watercolor is traditionally done by first drawing the subject matter in pencil on the paper and then painting on top of that sketch. My goal is to use fewer pencil marks and rely heavier on my instincts and feelings about the subject. It's a lot riskier, but unexpected things happen along the way, and I like that. I like the feeling of losing control of a painting and then trying find my way back.

My watercolors are a reflection of my surroundings so lately, my paintings are likely tropical. There is something so special about the light in south Florida and I am captivated by tropical foliage, especially palm trees, as you might have noticed. I also love including figures in my paintings because it’s the people that make the place. I choose busy urban settings where I can use lots of color and have people bustling about. Although I often move things around for composition’s sake, I rarely eliminate elements to make a “pretty” picture. If there happens to be telephone poles in the scene, they’ll likely end up in my painting!

  • Kendra Runnels

    Kendra Runnels

I began my working life in my early 20s as a graphic designer, but quickly and unexpectedly found myself with a paintbrush in my hand. After returning home from a life-changing, yearlong mission trip in 2010, I became a full-time artist. For the last decade I have been working to touch people through my artwork and bring hope, joy and beauty to peoples’ homes and lives.

I create mixed media pieces of artwork depicting dreamlike, nostalgic and natural scenes using a combination of collage, pattern, texture and layers of acrylic paint. My subjects vary a great deal from people walking in the rain, street/location scenes to animals and nature. But the thread of similarity throughout my pieces are the collaging of pages from old books, sheet music and other found papers into my artwork. A few years back, I felt using words and phrases in my work could help me tell the meaning behind each work of art. It could also help me tell my story, help others see their own story in my work and it could be a daily whisper of encouragement and hope to anyone who sees my pieces.

  • George Gehring 3

George grew up in Ocean City, NJ, where summers were magical: forever sunny beach days; endless swims in the ocean; a bustling boardwalk; long lazy bike rides. The beach is his heaven on earth—and the reason it’s the subject of so many of his pictures.

When it comes to life, George likes to say: “I’ve taken the scenic route.” He’s lived in many cities—New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco—studied abroad in Rome, Italy, and traveled all around the globe. Looking at the world through his own lens and capturing those ‘just found’ moments is his passion.

George studied photography at the acclaimed Art Center College of Design, after receiving a B.A. degree in English literature and business. He’s held numerous creative positions throughout his corporate career and is now funneling those experiences into his art business. Today, he splits his time between Ocean City, NJ, and Bucks County, PA—and still travels every chance he gets.

  • Parvathi Kumar

Born and raised in eastern Canada and now based in New Jersey, Parvathi Kumar was initially trained as a teen by her mother in manual film photography, and gained formative darkroom experience in high school. Despite degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, her passion/obsession for photography over the last 35+ years remained strong, and she became a full-time freelance professional photographer in 2010. She has received various awards and exhibits her work extensively in group and solo shows throughout the US and abroad.

Her main genre is documentary & street photography. She enjoys the process of street photography: wandering and observing, being fully present in the moment to be aware of what unfolds in public spheres, and to creatively capture candid moments on our collective everyday journey through life. She responds to simple scenes, light, geometry, shapes, and moods as they happen. She composes images in a way that linger in the viewer's mind, perhaps with a sense of mystery, or that tell a story of sorts.
